The post holder will be responsible to the Headteacher, via the Head of Faculty for: Design Technology Faculty
• Making an effective contribution, through the classes allocated, to the teaching commitments of the school in line with the school’s curriculum policy and departmental requirements.
• Taking responsibility for the work, behaviour and progress of pupils in the classes allocated to the teacher, in line with policies and procedures for the Faculty and the school.
• Planning, preparing and delivering engaging and stimulating lessons primarily in Food Technology, with some teaching across Design Technology as required, ensuring that lessons meet the needs of all pupils and provide appropriate challenge and support.
• Participating in the development and implementation of appropriate Schemes of Work in accordance with Faculty and school policies for curriculum, assessment and teaching methodology, having regard to the National Curriculum and examination specifications.
• Ensuring that pupils are taught in line with subject Schemes of Work and relevant examination requirements at Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies to motivate, engage and inspire pupils, incorporating practical activities, ICT and specialist resources where appropriate.
• Assisting in the implementation of programmes for the assessment of pupils as determined by the Faculty in light of the requirements of the school and the National Curriculum. To regularly mark pupils’ work in line with whole school and Faculty expectations. To participate in the school’s systems for recording and reporting pupils’ achievement and progress.
• Keeping accurate records of assessment, attendance, punctuality and behaviour in accordance with school policies and procedures.
• Contributing to curriculum development and teaching and learning initiatives within the Technology Faculty.
• Sharing responsibility for the security, safe use and maintenance of specialist equipment, resources, stock and teaching areas, ensuring Health and Safety regulations are adhered to at all times, particularly within Food Technology practical environments.
• Participating in the school’s agreed arrangements for appraisal, quality assurance, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and professional growth.
• Liaising with Form Tutors, pastoral staff, parents/carers and external agencies, where appropriate, in promoting the interests and welfare of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Attending meetings as required in connection with the post, including Departmental meetings, Faculty meetings, Parents’ Evenings, CPD sessions and whole school events.
• Contributing to the production of reports, records and statistical information for the Headteacher, Faculty Leader or Subject Leader, including reports to parents/carers as required.
• Supporting and maintaining the positive ethos of the school and contributing to a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment for all pupils.
• Adhering at all times to the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and ensuring that any safeguarding concerns are immediately reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy DSL.
• All teachers are expected to contribute to the organisation and development of pastoral care, guidance and support within the school and may be required to act as a Form Tutor in accordance with the school’s expectations.
• All teachers will be expected to carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published duty rotas.
• All teachers will be expected to contribute to the school’s extra-curricular programme, including enrichment opportunities linked to Food Technology and Design Technology where appropriate.
• All teachers will be expected to accurately record attendance and punctuality information for the pupils they teach.
• To work collaboratively with colleagues within the Faculty to prepare Schemes of Work, teaching resources and assessment materials.
• To assist the Faculty Leader and Subject Leader with the administration and organisation of internal and external examinations and coursework requirements where applicable.
• To contribute to the collective care of books, materials, equipment and specialist teaching areas and to maintain an orderly and purposeful learning environment.

• In addition to the duties specified in this Job Description, the teacher may be required to undertake such responsibilities as the Headteacher, Governors or Trustees may reasonably require, consistent with the statutory and contractual duties of a teacher.
• The ability to organise, plan and prepare structured and engaging lessons which provide for individual differences and promote high standards of achievement.
• The ability to teach Food Technology effectively, with the ability to contribute to Design Technology teaching where required.
• The ability to organise and deliver practical lessons safely, effectively and imaginatively within specialist teaching environments.
• An empathy with young people and the ability to motivate and encourage pupils in developing creativity, independence and confidence in the subject.
• An ability to communicate effectively with parents/carers, pupils and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
• The ability to incorporate a range of teaching and learning strategies, including the effective use of ICT, into classroom practice.
• The enthusiasm to contribute to whole school initiatives, policies, enrichment opportunities and extra-curricular activities.
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a Faculty team and contribute positively to curriculum development and improvement planning.
• An appropriate qualification and background in Food Technology / Design Technology (Qualified Teacher Status / QTS pending if currently completing teacher training).
• A secure understanding of the National Curriculum and examination requirements relevant to Food Technology and Design Technology at Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Knowledge and understanding of assessment, marking and reporting procedures which support pupil progress and achievement.
• A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and Health and Safety requirements within practical teaching environments.
• High expectations of all pupils in relation to behaviour, achievement and personal development.
• Applicants should possess strong personal organisational and time management skills.
• Applicants must be able to contribute positively to the continued development work of the Faculty.
• There must be a commitment to implementing school policies relating to behaviour, safeguarding, equal opportunities, guidance and pupil welfare.

• Willingness to consent to and apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure and to comply with GDPR requirements.
