Salary Range:          Grade 1 (£18,869 - £20,351)

Job Description

The post holder will report to the member of the leadership group responsible for cover. The main contacts for the job are teaching staff, other support staff, and pupils.


Main Purpose of the Job:

Principal duties include working as part of a team to provide short-term cover on a daily basis, primarily for the faculty to which you are attached, but also for other subject areas as required. When not actively covering a lesson, you will support activities within the faculty. The school is seeking ambitious, flexible, and hardworking applicants who are looking to gain experience in a school setting.
 

Main Duties:

Covering for Absent Staff:

  • Work with groups of children under the supervision of the teacher, including implementing programmes of work and individual support for pupils.
  • Use specialist skills, training, or experience to support pupils.
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model by presenting a positive personal image and responding appropriately to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others, engaging all pupils in activities.
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognize and reward self-reliance.
  • Provide regular feedback on children’s progress to the class teacher and file records.
  • Provide feedback to pupils regarding their progress and achievement.
     

Within the Designated Faculty:

  • Under the teacher’s direction, prepare the classroom for lessons, including display work, and clear it afterward as appropriate.
  • Maintain and update records, information, and data, and produce analysis and reports as required.
  • Undertake the marking of pupils’ work, when required, and accurately record achievement and progress.
  • Administer and assess routine tests, and invigilate exams.
  • Attend parents’ meetings as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectives.
     

Support for the School:

  • Ensure strategic processes are followed to overcome barriers to learning, including behaviour management strategies.
  • Be aware of and comply with child protection procedures, health and safety regulations, security protocols, confidentiality, and data protection policies, reporting any concerns to the relevant staff member.
  • Accompany teachers on home visits, as well as teachers and pupils on educational visits.
  • Assist in maintaining high standards of health and safety at all times.
  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Assist in the supervision of classroom and outdoor activities.
  • Be aware of and support diversity, ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities for learning and development.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the school.

  • Self-motivation and personal drive to complete tasks to the required timescales and quality standards.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workload demands and new school challenges.
